This is where any questions messaged to us will be posted, both from here and on tumblr so everyone is receiving consistent information.

Q: why do participants need to be 18+?

A: Okay. Let’s be real here for a minute and go as far as saying a lot of Wincest stories contain explicit material, yeah? So to start with, it’s illegal in the US to provide pornographic materials to anyone under the age of 16, and most states have laws that raise that age to 18. That means that anyone who writes fic containting “pornographic content” or who creates art containing such and sends it in any way to someone underage can be fined or imprisoned for doing so. And while I know that not everyone is in the US, I am not familiar with the laws of each individual country; even if I were, it would be near impossible to assign authors/artists/betas to each other in such a way as to prevent any laws from being broken AND allow people to have a choice of which fic they’re working with.

This doesn’t account for the fact that a lot of authors are not comfortable with minors reading their work (Yes, we acknowledge that once its out there, especially on tumblr and Ao3, its impossible for us to restrict who can and can’t read it, but that’s different than knowingly sending an underage person a direct link or an email/message). The same goes for artists who are not comfortable creating explicit art for someone who is underage.

Furthermore, after all of the heat that Wincest-shippers have been facing from other shippers/fandomers/general persons, I am not willing to leave any person who wants to participate in this event open to personal attack (especially when you consider how many allegations included pedophilia). It’s a really unfortunate situation that we’ve been put in, but I do feel responsible, in a way, for protecting the interests of participants as much as I can since I’m the one organizing this event.

Q: hello! i've never done a big bang before and i just have a couple questions. are all ratings allowed? i just ask because i saw the rules about being 18+ and those regarding kinks and i think i might end up writing something a little less explicit. also, i know we are not allowed to use things that have already been published, but can we write something that is in the same 'verse as something we've already written, as long as it doesn't include any of the published material? thank you! :D

A: Excellent questions! Yes, all ratings of fic are allowed of course. The 18+ rule and the rules regarding kink were basically preliminary statements since those questions were bound to be asked anyway. ^^

And yes, something written as part of a ‘verse is fine as well (although I’m sure we’d all appreciate a link to your ‘verse so we can read in it’s entirety). I do think that, for the artist’s sake, we will have to ask for a brief run-down on the previous parts of the story as well, just in case the artist is limited on the time they have to read your work. Sound fair?

I would also like to note that aromantic and asexual interpretations of the characters are also welcome. Just in case anyone was wondering. ^^

Q: Hi, I'm planning to sign up for the wincesterbigbang (thank you for moderating!) Do you need a summary to sign up? I have a few ideas rattling around but nothing def yet. Thanks!

A: You don’t actually! I’m going to be asking for very basic information on sign-up: your url, a contact email, and which category you think you’ll be writing for. Maybe a couple other things, but I won’t be asking for a summary until its time to do Artist Claims. ^^ I know that, as a writer myself, I often don’t have a clue of what I’m doing ahead of time, and I want to keep this bang as chill as possible for everyone involved.

Great question, thanks!

Q: Hey! I'm so sorry if this was answered all ready but I didn't see anything on the subject. Is it okay to have two authors sign up for one fic? Just to do a co-authored submittal? Thank you!

A: You know, I hadn’t even thought of this, truth be told. I don’t have any issue with collaborations, as long as said collabs are original, previously-unposted work. I do think we’ll keep it to two authors (although I don’t expect anyone to want to sign up with three, I’m just stating this as a just-in-case). Obviously, you’ll be held to the same guidelines and deadlines as all the other authors.

I don’t know if people will disagree with me on this, but if anyone does and would like to discuss it please send your message off-anon okay? I promise to respect your privacy, but I’d like to keep the feed clear of debate. ^^

Thanks for the question!

Q: ive never done a big bang before so forgive me for the stupid question >3< whats an artist claim mean exactly???

A: Aww no stupid questions dear! Especially when you’ve not been in a big bang before. So how it goes is authors will start on their works earlier than the artists. When it comes times for rough drafts/summaries to be turned in, those summaries will be posted up for artists to see. Then artists will have an opportunity to claim a fic to base their artwork on.

Q: hey! can you give a quick run down of what the responsibilities of a beta are? i have a basic idea but id just like to get a better feel of it to see if it'd be something i could do!! thank you in advance (:

A: Basically, a beta is someone who reads over a fic prior to posting to help check for grammar, spelling, mechanical, and/or continuity errors. Some authors also like to have their work beta-read to ensure that their characters are . . . well, in-character.

Q: Can I change the category I signed up for from a Big Bang to a Mini Bang? (or vice versa)

A: Yes you can! You can change your category up until the point that summaries are due (so artists know, at minimum, how long the fic they're going to be working with is). Just make sure to inform the mods so that we can update the information we have for you and your fic.

Q: What about the copyright for the artwork? I hope it still lies with the artist, with permission for the author to post it?

A: Actually, its up to the artist to post up their own work, then you’ll need to supply your author and us with links to it. So the copyright stays with you!

When we do masterposts, they will include the name of/link to the fic, the name of/link to the author, links to the art, and the name of/link to the artist. Author posts to LJ, Tumblr, and Ao3 (or whatever they choose to use) will be required to have those same links to the art/artist and vice versa. That way, everyone gets credit to their own work, and people are able to see which art/story pairs go together easily.

Q: ooh i came up with a potentially heartbreaking question: is unrequited wincest allowed?

A: Ohhh dear. I think if that’s the focus of your storyline, that’s fine. (e.g. don’t write a Destiel story with unrequited Wincest because that defeats the point of this being a Wincest Big Bang yeah?)

Although yeah way to go for the heartbreak, there. :P
